10 Characters Omitted From Movie Versions of Popular Books

captain marvel

What does Captain Marvel of Captain America: Civil War and Tom Bombadil of Lord of the Rings have in common?

Both characters appear only in the book versions of their respective film adaptations. Screenwriters often have to cut characters or combine a couple of characters into one for different reasons.

Captain Marvel for example was a major character in the comic but wasn’t introduced as yet in the Marvel series so she wasn’t included in the adaptation of Captain America: Civil War.

Peter Jackson believed that Tom Bombadil, a beloved character in Tolkein’s books, would slow down the action and didn’t believe that the character was crucial to the storyline of the film. Therefor his character was cut out of the films.

Head over to MentalFloss where you’ll find 8 other characters that were also cut from the movie versions of popular books.
