IS BASED ON…
Let the Right One In – John Ajvide Lindqvist
Swedish film Let the Right One In is based on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s book of the same name published in 2004. Lindqvist also wrote the screenplay for the movie.
The novel focuses on a 12 year old boy, Oskar and his relationship with a centuries old vampire girl Eli. The book focuses on the darker issues of humanity, dealing with heavy themes such as social isolation, divorce, alcoholism, school bullying, pedophilia, self mutilation and murder.
Director Alfredson decided to tone down on many elements of the book and focus primarily on the relationship between Oskar and Eli.
The film received critical acclaim and won many awards. In 2010, an American remake was made entitled Let Me In based on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s screenplay.
